The CSF was examined in all patients before treatment; inflammation was found in four cases, with pleocytosis from 19 to 29 cells and protein levels from 90 to 100 mg dl. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay demonstrated that all patients had anticysticercal antibodies in their CSF sample and also in the serum of seven patients.10 Computerized tomography scanning showed a rounded and enlarged fourth ventricle in all cases. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated the presence of cysts inside the cavity in all patients. In three patients there was additional abnormal enhancement after administration of gadolinium contrast material, which suggested ependymitis. Magnetic resonance imaging in five patients showed additional cysts in other locations or basal arachnoiditis. The follow-up period ranged from 6 to 26 months average 15.7 months ; . Clinical evaluations were performed monthly. Magnetic resonance imaging was obtained every 3 months a total of two times ; , except in one patient in whom three MR images were obtained. The response to treatment was considered good when MR studies demonstrated disappearance of the cyst or a decrease in its size together with clinical improvement. Treatment was considered a failure when the MR studies revealed no change with respect to posttreatment images, regardless of an apparently stable symptomatology. Results.

| Chlorpheniramine without prescriptionThis study was approved by our IRB. Written informed consent was obtained from all patients in the study. One-hundred ASA physical status I or II patients scheduled for elective LC were included and randomly divided into four groups. The study was double-blind and randomized with a computer program. The study drugs chlorpheniramine maleate [CPM], DM, lidocaine, and normal saline [N S] ; were prepared by the hospital pharmacy in identical containers marked with the name of the project, the investigator's name, administer routes, and consecutive numbers. Patients were excluded if they had clinically diagnosed acute pancreatitis, were scheduled to undergo any surgical procedure expected to produce more trauma than LC alone, had acute preoperative pain other than biliary colic, required chronic pain treatment, or had current or recent cancer or any condition that would contraindicate participation in a surgical study of this nature. Patients with contraindications for lidocaine or who had received opioids or nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs within 1 wk were excluded. Patients were assessed for eligibility within 14 days before surgery, provided a full medical history, and underwent complete physical examination and laboratory tests. Preoperatively, all patients were instructed in the use of a visual analog scale VAS ; to measure pain scores for pain assessment. Based on retrospective data from our institution in the same surgical population, a power analysis was performed using reduction in meperidine consumption as the primary outcome variable. It is clinically meaningful because reduced opioid consumption implied that patients exhibited lower pain scores and less opioid-related side effects. We calculated a sample size so that a between-group mean difference in meperidine consumption of 25 mg would permit a one0.05 with a power of 80%. tailed type I error rate of This analysis indicated that a sample size of at least 20 patients per group was required. The doses of IV lidocaine 3 mg kg 1 h 1 ; and DM were chosen on the basis of previous studies 7, 10, 11 ; . The dose of 40 mg of DM containing 20 mg of CPM was used 35 ; because of the available formulation of DM so that 1 ampoule of DM 10 mg ; contains 5 mg of CPM. DM was given IM because the bioavailability of oral DM is only 10% 12 ; , whereas the bioavailability after an IM injection is similar to that after an IV injection, with almost the same rapid onset. Dextrorphan, the liver metabolite of DM, may be responsible for most of the side effects attributed to DM, although a large dose of IV DM leads to hypotension and tachycardia. Therefore, IM administration may provide a better alternative to an oral or IV administration route, with rapid onset in acute pain and chlorpropamide.
PROTOCOL OF SCREENING AND NUTRITIONAL ASSESSMENT IN PATIENTS WITH SPINAL CORD INJURY SCI ; AIM : The presentation of our protocol for screening and nutritional assessment after SCI in both the acute and chronic phase. MATERIAL & METHODS : We studied 47 SCI patients hospitalized in our department since January 2003, 29 male and 18 female with a mean age : 42 years. The assessment of their nutritional status was based on : 1 ; medical and dietary history, 2 ; physical examination : muscle wasting, loss of subcutaneous fat, spasticity, 3 ; anthropometric data, 4 ; laboratory data : complete blood count, total protein, albumin, 24h urine urea, 5 ; identification of risk factors impairing nutritional status : multiple trauma, depression, infection. RESULTS : Out of 47 patients, 35 75% ; were nutritionally compromised, 83% in the acute phase 6 months post injury ; and 55% suffered a complete lesion. 20 patients 57% ; received specific formulas, as they were recently introduced in our protocol. 63% had pressure ulcers, 52% infections, 52% multiple trauma, and 35% depression. CONCLUSIONS : Though the pressure ulcers are considered as a major risk factor, the nutrition care plan should incorporate all the stress factors, to reduce the complications and enhance the rehabilitation outcome. Nutritional therapy is of major importance for recovery and optimization of function and should be coordinated with the other rehabilitation priorities.

There may well be convinced believers in the Anglo-Saxon model, who assert that Structural Funds are a distortion of market forces, and that the provision of physical infrastructure and human capital should be left to market forces. But this type of ideological critique tends to be rare in Europe, at least among economists. The critiques that are advanced tend to be more subtle. Basically, they assert that Structural Funds however well intentioned and necessary - produce no significant beneficial effects. Such a critique has been advanced recently in two papers published by the Dutch CPB Ederveen et al, 2002a and b ; . They make the perfectly valid point that when macro models are used to evaluate Structural Fund impacts on cohesion, they tend not seek to establish if there is a positive impact on the cohesion objective due to the policies. Rather, they characterise model-based research on Structural Fund policy impacts as "imposing" the results.67 The alternative approach suggested by Ederveen et al 2002a and b ; is to set up Barro-type growth regressions Barro and Sala-i-Martin, 1995 ; and augment them with Structural Fund variables. Thus, the basic Barro-type regression will have growth of GDP as the dependent variable and the initial level of GDP per head, the domestic savings rate, population growth, etc., as independent variables. They insert the Structural Fund expenditures into such a model and seek to estimate statistically significant and positive coefficients.68 In general they fail to find any significant Structural Fund effect. But since they examine a wide range of countries, some of which received very little aid, and deal with a time period that stretches from the mid-1960s to the early 1990s, their findings are not surprising.69 However, when they add a "conditioning" variable such as openness, institutional quality, corruption index, etc. ; , their analysis suggests that a few countries like Ireland did benefit from an increased growth rate that was associated with the Structural Funds. We suggest that this approach suffers from the fact that it posits a model where the only Structural Fund impact looked for is one on the growth rate. In most of the sample of thirteen EU countries and for most of the sample period 1960-95, the regional aid was trivially small, and was very unlikely to affect the growth rate, even temporarily. The macro-model-based impact evaluations usually posit a less stringent "levels" effect, and draws on the international literature to support it. If the CPB approach were to be restricted to the poorer EU member states, and excluded such high income countries as Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, France, etc., then significant effects on growth might reasonably be sought. However, the panel regression technique requires a wide range of countries, which frustrates application of the technique to lagging countries in isolation. Within the literature of policy impact evaluation using structural macro-models, there are also differences of emphasis. For example, the EC's own model QUEST - is sophisticated neoKeynsian, with forward-looking or model consistent ; expectation mechanisms. In such models one tends to get policy crowding out caused by the anticipation of tax increases in the and cholestyramine.

Informed use of GlcN can facilitate our understanding of hexosamine-induced insulin resistance, whereas use of excessive concentrations of GlcN can generate data that leads to erroneous conclusions and generalizations. A case in point is the study of Hresko et al. 18 ; who concluded that GlcN-induced insulin resistance in 3T3-L1 cells is caused by depletion of intracellular ATP. As clearly shown in subsequent reports 30, 31 ; , this conclusion was derived from a toxic side-effect of GlcN that could be minimized by the judicious use of this potent agent.

A NADH dehydrogenase was isolated from an inner membraneenriched fraction of beetroot mitochondria Beta vulgaris L. ; by solubilization with sodium deoxycholate and purified using gel filtration and affinity chromatography. The NADH dehydrogenase preparation contained a minor ATPase contamination. Beetroot mitochondria were chosen as the isolation material for purifying the enzymes responsible for oxidizing matrix NADH due to the absence of the extemally facing NADH dehydrogenase in the variety we have used. The purified NADH dehydrogenase complex catalyzed the reduction of various electron acceptors with NADH as the electron donor, was not sensitive to rotenone inhibition, and had a slow NADPH-ubiquinone 5 reductase activity. The isolated complex contained 14 major polypeptides. It was concluded that the dehydrogenase represented a form of the plant mitochondrial complex I and not the intemally facing rotenone-insensitive NADH dehydrogenase found in plant mitochondria because of its complex structure, its cross-reactivity with antisera raised against bovine heart mitochondrial complex 1, and the similarity of its kinetics and inhibitor responses to rotenonesensitive NADH oxidation by beetroot submitochondrial particles.

Oracle's object partitioning is a very powerful feature in the data warehousing environment. For manageability, the most common partitioning method is by chronological time, such as our SALES table schema, which is range partitioned by time id. Sales data for one specific month all reside within the same partition. Query performance can be improved in many cases by composite partitioning, which can lead to tables with very large number of partitions. In Oracle Database 10g, scalability and memory usage of these objects has been dramatically improved, especially for those tables with tens of thousands of partitions. For the purpose of this test, the SALES table was defined using range partitioning on time id 72 partitions ; and hash partitioning on prod id 256 subpartitions per partition ; , this produces a composite partitioned table with 72 * 256 18, 432 partitions and cisplatin.
Mutations were associated with failure in previously published mutation scores see Table 1 ; . All protease positions were analyzed when the HIV-1 protease sequences of isolates from 10% of our patients' isolates harbored a difference from the HXB2 sequence.
